Competency-Based: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)-Nursing Informatics

Recent healthcare legislation has called for more widespread use of information technology—and nurses are at the epicenter of this transformation. In the Nursing Informatics specialization, you will:

  • Learn how technology systems and workflows can improve and expedite communication and patient data.
  • Explore key areas such as information systems, database concepts, effective project management, information protection, and knowledge management in a healthcare setting.
  • Apply what you’ve learned in a real-world setting through fieldwork experience.

The BSN Track is for registered nurses who already hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Students who enter the program with a BSN will complete the following core curriculum and then advance to the courses in the Nursing Informatics specialization.

If you hold a hospital diploma, associate degree in nursing, or bachelor’s degree (other than BSN), see the RN Track.

Progress at Your Own Pace

The competency-based option is designed for working professionals. Your progress is measured by the mastery or demonstration of skills, abilities, and knowledge in a particular area of study.

Each competency included in the MSN-Nursing Informatics program has been carefully designed by expert faculty with input from employers, with both your education and future employment in mind.
