Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

Workforce turnover is inevitable: People retire, move, and change jobs and careers. But did you know that almost two-thirds of employees leave for what experts call “more preventable” reasons?1 When the C-suite and HR managers make employee retention a priority, they can dramatically improve the company’s bottom line.
It’s estimated that employee attrition costs U.S. businesses $1 trillion annually.2 To bring it down to a more granular level, workforce turnover can cost one-half to two times each departing employee’s salary.2 There’s lost productivity, overtime, hiring, interviewing, training, onboarding—it adds up quickly.
Human resource professionals can play a key role in helping to form policies and provide training to improve employee retention. Here are some of the approaches business leaders are taking to combat the high costs of employee attrition:
Stay current with best practices in human resources for combating employee attrition by earning an online HR degree. Walden University’s MS in Human Resource Management online degree program can help prepare you to achieve your HR career goals.
As a master’s candidate in Walden’s online HR degree program, you’ll learn from HR-certified faculty, build practical skills using AI-driven simulations, and receive all the materials you need to prepare for SHRM certification, or for certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute.
