In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Concentration Courses
Effective project management includes a combination of several core skills and competencies, including leadership, communication, time management, and problem solving. In this course, students explore the basics of what it means to be a project manager within an organization. Through real-world-focused, scenario-based assignments, they practice foundational skills of the role, examine the importance of ethical practice and emotional intelligence for project managers, explore issues related to leading a project team and managing stakeholders effectively, and become familiar with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies. Upon successful completion of the course, students have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in project management.
Project management involves wearing many different hats—from managing time and deliverables, to negotiating, to establishing trust and building relationships with stakeholders. In this course, students “try on” these hats by exploring project management functions and skills. They assume a project management role to solve a career-related challenge using skills they have developed throughout the course. Students have the opportunity to earn the PMSCP® micro-credential as part of the course.
This course provides a practical introduction to Agile project management principles, frameworks, and tools, with a focus on iterative development, team collaboration, and customer-centric delivery. Students will explore methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, and examine how to manage scope, time, and resources in dynamic environments. Through scenario-based assignments grounded in real-world challenges, students will gain experience applying Agile practices to projects, preparing them to lead and contribute effectively in fast-paced, adaptive work settings. At the conclusion of this course, students will have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in Agile project management.
Used by organizations of all sizes and across industries, Lean Six Sigma principles can be used to drive continuous improvement. In this course, students explore the basics of Lean Six Sigma, which focuses on improving efficiencies, maintaining quality, reducing waste, and enforcing consistency within organizational processes and performance. Students will engage in real-world-focused assignments that will expand their skills and knowledge about the concepts, methods, and approaches related to Lean Six Sigma. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have the opportunity to earn a workplace certificate in the basics of Lean Six Sigma.

Walden's Project Management concentration is a great way to add valuable skills to your resume without pursuing a full degree in project management. Each of the project management courses from which you can choose includes an industry-recognized micro-credential that can help you document your knowledge of basic project management as well as Agile and Lean methodologies.
It takes only one and a half terms (three project management courses) to earn a concentration in project management. Simply register for and complete three courses from the list of concentration courses. The concentration will be added to your transcript once you have successfully completed your chosen three courses.
The course options for Walden’s Project Management concentration are elective courses you can include in your program at the same tuition rate as other courses. If you choose to complete a workplace certificate course, any micro-credential available with the course is included at no additional cost.
