In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

The data used to generate your personalized career report comes from Lightcast, a data analytics company that gathers information from trusted government sources. These include the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the U.S. Census Bureau, the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW), Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS), Canadian Business Patterns (CBP), and the National Industry-Occupation Employment Matrix (NIOEM). Lightcast also compiles data from over 65,000 online job postings to provide a comprehensive view of employment trends.
Pulled from various government sources, our career report data is interpreted to provide near-time insights and enable clear, standardized comparisons across regions and the market. Lightcast updates its data several times a year as government sources release their updated figures. However, there may be a delay between the release of government data and Lightcast’s updates.
Walden’s career report gives you options. You’ll receive three suggested job categories and within each category, up to three job titles. If you’re intrigued by different career paths, we suggest you review your report recommendations, consider the potential of each career, and see what degree programs you need to achieve them. You can retake the career assessment quiz as many times as you want to refine your results.

Walden’s personalized career assessment quiz uses CIP-to-SOC mapping. This is the process of linking Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes—which categorize academic programs—to Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes, which represent specific occupations in the workforce. This mapping helps pinpoint the educational pathways that align with different career opportunities, taking the guesswork out of planning your future.
The raw data in our career report projections is collected by Lightcast, a data analytics company. Lightcast gathers and analyzes workforce data from trusted government sources, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U.S. Census Bureau, and other key reports like the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) and Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS). It also collects job postings from more than 65,000 online sources. Using its proprietary methods, Lightcast refines and enriches this data to provide real-time insights, making it easier to compare job trends, salaries, and market demand across different locations.
It’s easy! Take our five-minute career assessment quiz. You’ll instantly receive a customized report detailing exciting career opportunities that match the personal insights you provided.
The responses you provide in the quiz are used to create a unique interest profile based on John Holland’s RIASEC model (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional), which helps narrow down vocational choices. Your interest profile is then matched to careers with similar profiles using the U.S. Department of Labor’s Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system. This helps you easily connect your passions with promising potential career paths.
