How long does it take to earn a BS in Healthcare Administration?

The BS in Healthcare Administration program requires 180–181 quarter credits to graduate, covering general education, core healthcare administration topics, and electives. The time it takes to earn your degree largely depends on how many credits you transfer and which learning format you choose:

  • Tempo Learning® (competency-based): This self-paced option can be completed in as few as 21 months . It is ideal if you have prior workplace knowledge, as it allows you to progress at your own pace by demonstrating mastery of specific competencies rather than following a set schedule.
  • Course-based learning: This traditional format, featuring a fixed schedule and set deadlines, is typically completed in as few as 48 months.

You can also take advantage of the Accelerate Into Master’s (AIM) option. This allows you to earn graduate-level credits while completing your bachelor’s degree, which can shorten the time required to complete a Walden master’s degree.

Whether you choose the traditional path or the self-paced Tempo Learning® format, both are designed to help you balance your education with your current professional commitments.

What is the difference between healthcare administration and healthcare management?

Healthcare administration focuses more on the “big picture” of running a healthcare organization. It deals with how the organization runs—budgets, policies, regulations, planning, and overall operations of a hospital or clinic.

In contrast, healthcare management is about the day-to-day activities of a healthcare organization. It focuses on supervising staff, scheduling, workflow, and making sure care teams and departments operate smoothly.
