Violet Marie Wilkes received her Ed.D in Higher Education Leadership in 2005 at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and her MS in Nursing from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois in 1990 with a concentration in Community Health. She currently is part-time faculty at Walden University, teaching in the MSN Nursing Informatics Program starting November 23, 2015. Dr. Wilkes has experience in several universities in several states as a teaching professor, and she has held several administrative positions as program chair in education and as CNO in an 832-bed teaching medical center. She worked as clinical faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago in a joint faculty/clinical specialist role.

Her publications include a book, book chapters, and articles in the areas of HIV/AIDS and leadership/management, and most recently simulation in nursing education. Dr. Wilkes’ dissertation “Developing a Strategic Knowledge Management Plan for E-learning,” an evidence-based study, was awarded ‘outstanding’ by the Faculty of the Fischler Graduate School of Education and Human Resources at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Wilkes’ practice specialties are medical-surgical nursing and community health. She has taught courses in statistics, research, informatics, community health, nutrition, medical/surgical nursing, health assessment and physical exam, foundations, leadership, nursing theory, and health economics. Dr. Wilkes holds a certification in informatics from the University of Minnesota, and a certification in online teaching from OLC (formerly Sloan-C). She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Phi International Nursing Honor Society.
