Dr. Toinette Higgins received her PhD in Education with a specialization in Nursing Education at Capella University in July 2012. She is a member of the National League for Nursing (NLN). Dr. Higgins is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) who has been teaching both in traditional and online undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for thirteen years. She is passionate about nursing education and creative teaching strategies. She has worked in both inpatient such Critical Care, Acute and Chronic Dialysis, and Postanesthesia Care Unit (PACU) as well as various outpatient settings for over twenty years. She teaches or has taught Advanced Nursing Roles; Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in a Diverse Community; Teaching and Learning Strategies; Nursing Theory, Curriculum Design; Assessment and Evaluation; Evidence-Based Practice; Adult Nursing (Medical-Surgical); Dimensions of Baccalaureate Nursing Practice; Health Assessment; Nursing Leadership and Management; Transition into Professional Nursing; Clinical Pathophysiology; Introduction to Critical Care; and Transcultural Nursing. She has a research interest in Nurse Educator Competencies and Evaluation as well as Nursing Student Retention and Success.
