Dr. Rachelle D. Smith obtained her Master's of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with an emphasis in Social Justice from the University of Missouri - St. Louis. Her professional areas of expertise are the intersection of culturally responsive healthcare, trauma informed care, and the retention/recruitment of minoritized populations into clinical mental health services. Dr. Smith began her career in education twenty-one years ago as a special education teacher for St. Louis City Public Schools and transitioned into academia as a student teacher supervisor. Prior to returning to Walden University, Dr. Smith's most recent academic posting was as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leader at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Smith has presented at numerous professional conferences such as the American Counseling Association, the Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors, the National Organization of Human Services Professionals, and the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Smith has published several peer reviewed works, and is currently developing a manuscript that examines the intersection of trauma and spirituality.
