In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Pochran has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership/Instructional Technology from the University of Alabama, and an Education Specialist, Masters and Bachelors degrees in Secondary Education from UAB. She has certifications in English, History, Guidance Counseling, and Administration. She served over 40 years in public education in both middle and high schools teaching history, serving as guidance counselor, assistant principal, and in the central office working with Hurricane Katrina evacuees in Shelby County, Alabama. She also served as an Adjunct Instructor at both Jefferson State and Central Alabama Community Colleges. She currently teaches high school History online for the State Department of Alabama and is an adjunct for the MS in Instructional Design and Technology Program in The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Human Sciences,
Working with Hurricane Katrina evacuees was particularly meaningful for her. She went through the training to do home inspections for FEMA and spent a month in Gulfport, MS working with families in need of help. It was one of the most interesting experiences she has ever had, both rewarding and frustrating. It offered her a unique perspective she was able to rely on when working with students who had been displaced due to the devastation of the hurricane.
