Dr. Horton's formal training is in Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Counselor Education. Her current professional experience consists of serving in the role of Assistant Professor over the past four years. At Walden University, she serves as a contributing faculty member within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program.

Dr. Horton's current research interests consist of trauma and trauma informed care, best practices, maternal mental health and disability, and self-care and wellness. Dr. Horton has a passion for supporting individuals to reach their maximum potential through trauma-informed practices, access, and the development of skills to promote self-advocacy and empowerment.
