Barbara J. Salice holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California in the field of Higher, Adult and Professional Education. She has taught kindergarten through graduate school students. For five years, she was involved in the creating and developing of literacy and basic skills programs for non-traditional students in the State of Hawaii. From 1996-1998, she served as Executive Director of the Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles. Dr. Salice has had considerable experience in designing, directing and implementing programs in leadership. She has trained faculty to teach online. Dr. Salice served as Vice-Chair of the Governor's Council for Literacy at its inception in 1990. She received the Hawaii's First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year Award in 1987 and is credited with operating the Outstanding Literacy Program for Hawaii for two years. She served as chair of the Professional Development Committee of the Commission on Adult Basic Education for six years.
