Valda V. Upenieks received her PhD in Nursing Science at the University of Washington in June 2002. She currently is a contributing faculty member for the Ph.D Health Services - Doctoral Committee program in the College of Health Sciences. She has served in this role for a few months. Dr. Upenieks was a faculty member for UCLA, School of Nursing from 2003-2008, and taught graduate courses for the Nursing Administration Program. During this tenure, Dr. Upenieks was honored to be part of a renowned public health research team, RWJF “Transforming Care at the Bedside” Initiative. She has a number of publications on nursing work place transformations. In addition, she has taught online as an adjunct professor for Chamberlain University for over ten years in the MSN, DNP and MPH Programs. Dr. Upenieks has been a registered nurse for 30 years and has functioned in a variety of nursing leadership roles. Currently, she is the Director of Nursing Practice, Magnet and Innovation for the Froedtert Health System in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She also serves as a national Magnet Appraiser for the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
