Dr. Coccoma earned her MSW degree from Adelphi University in Long Island, New York and a Doctorate in Education (Counseling Psychology) from Argosy University Sarasota, Florida.
Originally from New York, her social work career included multiple positions from a staff social worker to Assistant Executive Director at a large child caring agency providing services and program development addressing the mental health needs of children, families and adults. She has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level Social Work programs for past 12 years at State and Private Universities. She maintains a private clinical social work practice providing psychotherapy to adults, couples and families. She conducts sessions in the office and online. She has been an active member in the State and local chapter of NASW and past chair of CONLI chair.
Her research focus has been on issues in mental health including trauma and trauma informed care. She has lectured on topics including social work ethics, and adolescent mental health. She has authored/co-authored many scholarly journal articles and is also the co-author of Trauma Informed Care: How Neuroscience influences Practice.
