BIO FOR Dr. JIM SKERTICH - Instructor
The instructor is originally from East Chicago, Indiana. Nine days after high school graduation, he entered the Air Force, serving over nine years in some interesting places like England (3 years) near Cambridge in the UK; Izmir, Turkey (2 1/2 years with NATO); Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico (3 years); and short intermittent assignments in the states of Texas, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Maryland and Washington D.C. as a communication specialist.
He has lived in California from 1970 to 2007 except for one year in Seattle, WA. The remaining time was spent in the Greater Los Angeles area (a year in San Jose) and from 1985 to 2007 in San Diego. At the end of February of 2007, he moved to Monroe, Ga.
His education includes a B.S. degree in Business Administration and Management from Indiana University-Northwest Campus in Gary, Indiana, a Master of Arts in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix in San Diego, and a DBA in International Business/Marketing from U.S. International University in San Diego, now known as Alliant University.
His most recent work experience since July 1985 was as owner of a local retail jewelry business until 1998. He also did consulting work in Total Quality Management from July 1995 until June 2003.
Prior work experience at Zales included 16 years as a regional manager of 52 stores responsible for opening new stores, closing unproductive stores, planning, organizing, directing, staffing, controlling and coordinating these business factors throughout four districts.
He has been an online instructor since 1995. In addition, he has served as a mentor for new instructors, a peer evaluator, and adviser for MBA students and their dissertations. He has been an online instructor at Walden University since 2003.
