Professor Whitney received her doctoral degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in Health Education. She is currently an associate professor of health education and health promotion at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She has a variety of interest areas which include: 1) the unique needs of student veterans, 2) environmental 3) the application of theory and models to health education programming 4) motivational interviewing as a tool for health educators, and 5) health literacy. Dr. Whitney's current research focuses on the application of theory in regard to health education and health promotion programs. Additionally, Dr. Whitney has been trained in motivational interviewing. This a technique grounded in the field of psychology that can be used by health educators to help individuals to make positive behavior changes.
