Walden Receives NCATE Accreditation

The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University, which was identified by U.S. News & World Report as having the largest online graduate program in education by enrollment (May 2010), has received accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the standard of excellence in professional preK–12 education.

NCATE accreditation is a nationally recognized standard of excellence in the preK–12 education profession and indicates that a university has met the following rigorous standards set by the profession and members of the public:

National Recognition of Walden Programs

As part of the NCATE process, the college was required to submit program reports to the Specialized Professional Associations (SPA) for national review. Six reports were submitted to NCATE and all have been nationally recognized to date. The programs that now are nationally recognized are:

  • Special Education Endorsement Program in Learning Disabilities (K–12)
  • Special Education Endorsement Program in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (K–12)
  • Teacher Preparation Program with a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) with a specialization in Early Childhood Education (Birth–Grade 3)
  • Teacher Preparation Program with a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) with a specialization in Special Education, Learning Disabilities (K–12)
  • Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Educational Leadership and Administration (Principal Preparation)
