In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Gina Gonnella earned both her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and a B.S. in Special Education from Penn State University’s Schreyer Honors College in 2015. Her academic foundation includes a graduate certification in Applied Behavior Analysis and minors in Disability Studies and Deafness and Hearing. Currently, Gina serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Nutrition Factors, where she oversees operations, sales, and business development.
Gina joined Walden University in May 2026 as an Adjunct Professor in the Integrated Health program. In this role, she teaches coursework for the B.S. in Integrative Health with a focus on NBHWC-aligned curricula and evidence-based coaching interventions. Professionally, she is a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC, #A-3806371, 8/1/2023) and a Pennsylvania Licensed Behavior Specialist (#BH004076, 1/8/2019). Her credentials include Wellness Program Manager (CWPM), Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), and Personal Trainer (CPT), with advanced training in functional nutrition, hormone health, and worksite wellness.
Beyond Walden, Gina is an Advisor for the First Coast Worksite Wellness Council and the National Wellness Alliance as part of the Wellness Advisory Council, an affiliate of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Her work utilizes evidence-based behavior change to enhance workforce well-being.
