In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Reid-Saunders is a doctorally prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and experienced nursing educator with over ten years of clinical nursing experience. With a strong background in high‑acuity inpatient psychiatry, forensic mental health, and interdisciplinary leadership, [Name] brings deep clinical expertise and a commitment to evidence‑based practice to both professional and academic settings.
Dr. Reid-Saunders earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Walden University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Technology, Jamaica. Their clinical practice includes advanced psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment across civil, forensic, and NGRI populations, along with leadership as Head of Treatment Team in state psychiatric hospitals.
As a nurse educator, Dr. Reid-Saunders has precepted undergraduate nursing students, supporting their development in clinical reasoning, psychopharmacology, patient assessment, and professional standards. Their scholarly interests include psychopharmacology, forensic psychiatry, trauma‑informed care, and quality improvement in behavioral health systems.
Professionally, Dr. Reid-Saunders is an active member of the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Neuroscience Education Institute. Their accomplishments include leading interdisciplinary treatment teams, contributing to clinical governance initiatives, and advancing psychiatric care through evidence‑based practice. Outside of work, Dr. Reid-Saunders enjoys the excitement and strategy of NASCAR racing.
