In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Thomas J. Mata, DHA, MBA, MHA, MAA, PMP, LSSMBB, FACHDM, is a healthcare executive, educator, and U.S. Army Medical Service Corps Officer with more than 15 years of experience across federal, commercial, and community health systems. His formal teaching areas include healthcare administration, leadership, quality improvement, and health systems operations, supported by extensive professional practice in program management, public health planning, innovation, and organizational performance.
At Walden University, Dr. Mata serves as a Contributing Faculty in the Master of Healthcare Administration program. He has over 6 years of teaching and instruction in both military and civilian settings.
Dr. Mata holds degrees in Biology and Administration from the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas; a Master of Healthcare Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Park University, Parkville, Missouri; and a Doctor of Health Administration from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a Fellow of the American College of Health Data Management, a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
