In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Tamora McConnell was born and raised in Jackson, MS. She has been an educator since 2011 in K-12 across the state of Mississippi. Dr. McConnell has served in higher education since 2022. She joins the Walden team as a Contributing Faculty member for the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education/Master of the Arts in Elementary Education (Teacher Licensure).
She earned her bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism from USM and a Master's in the Art of Teaching- Elementary Education from William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS. She continued her education at William Carey to earn a Specialist in Instructional Leadership and Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2019. Her dissertation topic was on the in-flip classroom model in elementary classrooms. In 2020, she was recognized as Teacher of the Year for her school, Power APAC, and in 2022, she was recognized as Support Staff of the Year for her district. No matter how far away she is from the classroom, she believes in always doing what's best for children. So much so, she served as a fellow with the NEA Foundation Global Fellowship where she learned how to connect schools in South Africa and Peru to American schools.
Dr. McConnell is also a member of the 2021-2022 class of Leadership Greater Jackson and a member of Junior League of Jackson. Dr. McConnell enjoys writing fictional novels and aspires to one day become a published author. Dr. McConnell currently resides in her home state of Mississippi.
