In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Stacey Nickson
Dr. Stacey Nickson has been professionally engaged in education since 1986, modeling innovation, collaboration and community in education, cross-cultural communication and leadership.
Dr. Nickson’s career focus has been the creation and implementation of innovative schools and non-profit programs, specifically guiding groups and individuals from a position of deficit to one of asset.
Dr. Nickson has served as a teacher and administrator from K-12 to post-doctoral education. During a 21-year K-12 career in San Diego, CA, from (1986-2007) Dr. Nickson served the Juvenile Court and Community Schools as a classroom teacher, mentor teacher, teacher-on-special assignment and principal. Dr. Nickson honed her skills as a K-12 innovator, creating thematic high school academies in collaboration with businesses and organizations across San Diego County.
Dr. Nickson transitioned to higher education in 2007, serving as a tertiary and online professor in graduate colleges of education at the University of Phoenix, Argosy University and Point Loma Nazarene University. Dr. Nickson joined the faculty at Auburn University (AL) in 2008, where she taught and administered professional development and outreach programs for 15 years.
Dr. Nickson became a co-developer of Culture Bump Approach in 2010, providing cross-cultural communication leadership to schools, colleges, non-profits, governments and businesses around the world.
Dr. Nickson has earned two Fulbright awards, first, as a Specialist in South Africa at the University of Cape Town (2012), and then as a Specialist in Ghana at the University of Cape Coast (2016). These opportunities led to her 6-year tenure as a member of the national board of directors of the Fulbright Association in Washington, D.C (2018-2024).
Dr. Nickson’s research and publications, workshops, speeches and presentations focus on cross-cultural communication and educational leadership.
Dr. Nickson is the founder and CEO of The Nickson Group, LLC, (Atlanta, GA) a consulting firm specializing in data storytelling, organizational innovation and cross-cultural communication through Culture Bump Approach. The Nickson Group works extensively in Alabama’s Black Belt, aiding communities with economic, health, education and environmental disparities.
For 20 years (from 2004-2024) Dr. Nickson was co-owner of Dogpatch Ranch, (501c3) a private rescue facility for senior dogs and is an avid motorcyclist and driver who enjoys attending professional sporting events both domestically and internationally. Dr. Nickson enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and supporting the activities of her parish.
