Courses
In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.
Disclaimers: Walden students have up to 8 years to complete their doctoral program unless they petition for an extension.
In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred. Learn more about the dissertation process in the Dissertation Guidebook.

My name is Dr. Sonja Calliste, I am the mother of two children, Alfred and Ciara, and the grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren, Bryson, Savannah, and Madeline. I was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. I became an LVN and graduated from Vernon College in 1990. I received my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2007 from Midwestern State University. I received my Masters of Science in Nursing from Midwestern State University, becoming an Advanced Certified Nurse Practitioner in 2010. In 2014, I attended the University of Arlington (UTA) and earned my post master's certification and became a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With lots of encouragement from my friends, I stepped out on faith, and in 2017, I obtained my Doctorate Degree from the University of Chamberlain.
The last twelve years I have had the pleasure of working as an adjunct faculty in the undergraduate and graduate nursing department at Midwestern State University. My hobbies include shopping, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends.
