Dr. Shekyra DeCree, PhD, LPCC-S

Dr. Shekyra DeCree is a licensed professional clinical counselor and counselor educator specializing in clinical mental health counseling, multicultural counseling, and counselor development. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University, an MA in Community Counseling from the University of Dayton, and a BA in Broadcast Journalism from The Ohio State University.
Dr. DeCree has more than a decade of combined professional and teaching experience in mental health counseling, counselor education, and clinical supervision. Her professional background includes work as a clinical therapist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Talbot Hall Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center, conducting geriatric mental health assessments for the Ohio Department of Mental Health, and providing therapeutic services across the lifespan in community, school-based, and family settings. She has also served in both Assistant Professor and Adjunct Faculty roles within CACREP-accredited Counselor Education programs, where she has taught courses in clinical mental health counseling, multicultural competence, social and cultural issues, crisis counseling, and internship.
At Walden University, Dr. DeCree serves as Contributing Faculty in the School of Counseling, where she supports graduate learners through culturally-informed teaching, mentorship, and student-centered learning.
Her scholarly and professional interests focus on the mental health and wellness of Black women and girls, multicultural responsiveness in counseling, counselor identity development, and social justice advocacy. Dr. DeCree is the founder of Queenspace Counseling & Wellness, a practice dedicated to culturally attuned mental health services for Black women and girls.
Dr. DeCree’s accomplishments include developing community-based mental health programming, creating culturally responsive counseling curricula, presenting at regional and national conferences, and co-authoring scholarship on the wellness of Black women counselors. She remains committed to advancing the counseling profession through education, advocacy, and holistic wellness initiatives.
