In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Sharrion Brown, LCSW-S received her Bachelor of Science in Family Science, Master of Social Work and Doctor of Social work degrees from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Brown has over 13 years of experience in the field of social work with 8 years of experience as a clinician and 4 years as an instructor. She has experience with Kentucky’s child welfare system, community social work, psychiatric inpatient and outpatient treatment, and work in the public school system. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and is a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional. Dr. Brown also holds a level 2 CBT accreditation from the Association of Psychological Therapies and is formally trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Dr. Brown co-owns a group practice and owns a private practice where she specializes in adolescent treatment and has a passion for working with youth and young adults.
