Shanta' Atkinson
Dr. Atkinson is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, both in the state of Texas, and is a National Certified Counselor. Dr. Atkinson is certified as a telemental health counselor and a trauma counselor, and is trained in EMDR. Additionally, she is serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Counseling at Walden University. Dr. Atkinson earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University, where her research focused on The Overlooked Experiences of Black Females Seeking Mental Health Services on HBCU Campuses. She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio.Additionally, she has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Atkinson has contributed to improving mental health access for military-connected high school students. She has also led the development and implementation of intensive outpatient and supportive outpatient counseling services for justice-involved individuals living with substance use, misuse, and undiagnosed mental health symptoms.
