In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Samantha Hobson has worked in the field of higher education since 2016, with a professional focus on academic advising, student persistence, and institutional policy application. She earned a Master of Business Administration from Walden University and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of North Texas. In her position as Senior Student Success Advisor at Walden University, Ms. Hobson provides academically grounded guidance to learners within undergraduate programs. Her work includes monitoring academic progression, supporting policy compliance, and contributing to evidence‑informed student success practices. She also leads the structured training and professional socialization of new advisors, promoting consistency in advising methodology and student support across the unit.
Ms. Hobson’s prior roles include service as an Academic Advisor and as an International Transcript Evaluator at the University of North Texas, where she supported both domestic and international student populations through transcript analysis, degree planning, and policy interpretation. She also advised undergraduate and graduate learners at Purdue University Global, assisting students in understanding academic requirements and navigating institutional resources.
