Dr. Sallie Wooten is a seasoned Professional School Counselor and National Board Certified Teacher with 14 years of elementary school counseling experience in Wake County, North Carolina. Her formal field of study is Counseling and Counselor Education, and she holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University, an M.S. in Counselor Education from East Carolina University, and a B.S. in Family and Child Sciences from Florida State University. Dr. Wooten currently serves as a contributing faculty member at Walden University, where she mentors graduate students in counselor education and supports their development as practitioner-scholars. In addition to her academic role, she serves as a Professional School Counselor at an elementary school in Apex, NC. Her professional background includes prior counseling roles at Briarcliff, Walnut Creek, and Eastern Elementary Schools, as well as experience as an academic coordinator for Duke Summer Sessions. She has also held leadership roles including student support team lead, MTSS Behavior Case Manager, and chair of Equity and Core Behavioral Health committees. Her accomplishments include securing multiple educator and equity-focused grants, presenting at professional conferences, delivering professional development workshops, and mentoring future school counselors.
