In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Rheanisha Burrell earned her PhD in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in May 2025. She currently serves as Contributing Faculty in the Master of Social Work program at Walden University, a role she has held since December 2025. Dr. Burrell is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in Delaware, Missouri, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, DC, and Washington State, and provides clinical supervision to social workers pursuing licensure in Texas and Virginia. Dr. Burrell has worked as a social worker for the past 15 years and as a social service professional since 2006 across government, healthcare, and nonprofit sectors. She has taught Assessment and Case Management, Ethics for Social Service Professionals, Psychopathology, and Human Behavior and the Social Environment at other colleges and universities. Her research interests focus on behavioral health access and engagement among marginalized populations. Dr. Burrell’s education, professional experience, and commitment to culturally responsive practice align strongly with the mission and values of the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work at Walden University.
