In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Perpetue Augustin (pronounced [per-PE-choo] [aw-GUS-ten]), also known to learners as “Dr. P,” is an adjunct faculty member in the College of Social and Behavioral Health at Walden University with a professional background in behavioral health leadership, social work practice, and healthcare operations. She has several years of experience in higher education, mental health, leadership development, and supporting vulnerable and underserved populations through person centered and trauma informed approaches. Dr. Augustin is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed in multiple states.
Dr. Augustin earned her Doctor of Social Work degree from Capella University in 2021. Her doctoral capstone, “Sex After Cancer Survivorship: Opening Difficult Conversations Within Social Work,” focused on improving communication, support, and holistic care for individuals navigating cancer survivorship. Her teaching and professional expertise focus on social work practice, mental health, trauma informed care, behavioral health leadership, leadership development, and workforce wellness. She is also passionate about exploring nontraditional and creative approaches to healing, including integrating food, storytelling, and cooking based therapeutic experiences as forms of connection, emotional expression, and community centered healing.
At Walden University, Dr. Augustin supports graduate learners through engaging and collaborative online instruction that encourages critical thinking, professional growth, and practical application of social work principles. She values creating supportive learning environments where learners feel respected, empowered, and connected.
Her primary research and professional interests include mental health equity, social determinants of health, behavioral health leadership, workforce engagement, and improving access to care for vulnerable populations.
In addition to her academic and professional work, Dr. Augustin is also the founder of PerpTable, a small catering and creative dining experience business centered around food, connection, and community.
