In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Paul R. Amigh II is a public health professional and educator specializing in public health, health policy, health informatics, and population health. His formal teaching and academic background are rooted in public health, with advanced training in epidemiology and data-driven health systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Public Health, along with a Master of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Walden University.
Dr. Amigh has more than 30 years of combined professional experience across healthcare, public health, and higher education, with over 15 years of teaching experience in both traditional and online academic environments. His teaching portfolio includes roles as a professor at Walden University, adjunct faculty at multiple institutions, and lead faculty at a career and technical college, where he taught a wide range of courses in nursing, healthcare administration, medical assisting, medical billing and coding, health office management, respiratory therapy, and general education.
At Walden University, Dr. Amigh currently serves as a professor in the health sciences programs, supporting courses in public health, health management, and nutrition. He previously served for approximately seven years as a teaching and research assistant at Walden University, contributing to student success through competency-based instruction, curriculum support, grading, and academic mentoring across numerous public health and healthcare courses . His role emphasizes student-centered learning, applied public health concepts, and real-world skill development.
Dr. Amigh’s primary research interests focus on the intersection of public policy and health outcomes, infectious disease prevention, nutrition across the lifespan, and the use of data and statistical modeling to inform public health decision-making. His expertise includes epidemiology, health systems management, preventive health strategies, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis applied to population health.
His professional background is highly diverse, encompassing clinical, military, administrative, and leadership roles. He served as a U.S. Army combat medic and worked extensively as a licensed practical nurse in correctional health, long-term care, and specialized Alzheimer’s care. He currently serves as a Public Health Program Supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, where he oversees regional public health initiatives, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, audits, and program performance across Western Pennsylvania for the Women’s, Infants, and Children’s program (WIC). In addition, he has held leadership roles in local government and public health organizations, including serving as a township supervisor and vice president of a county sanitation authority.
Among his major accomplishments, Dr. Amigh has received national recognition, including the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) Commitment to Education Award. He has trained numerous student leaders, including multiple national champions through SkillsUSA, and has contributed to professional development through conference presentations and public speaking engagements. His career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing education, strengthening public health systems, and improving community health outcomes through evidence-based practice, leadership, and service.
