In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Patsy Kasen’s formal training is in management and psychology where she has served in various roles over her 30+ year career. Dr. Kasen served as a marketing representative for several large insurance providers and as a marketing director for employer provided benefits for a consulting firm in St. Louis, Missouri. She then moved to educational positions as a professor in business management courses for 18+ years. She has experience in teaching and administration in both online and brick and mortar schools. She served as program manager for a hybrid delivery program for University of Phoenix at St. Louis, Missouri and Tampa, Florida. She served as dean of academic affairs for a brick and mortar university in Sarasota, Florida. Dr. Kasen has served on numerous doctoral student dissertation committees at several universities. At Walden University, she teaches the doctoral capstone courses. Dr. Kasen earned a Doctorate of Management from Webster University. She earned a Masters of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Industrial/Organizational Psych from Purdue University Global. Her Masters of Business Administration is from Southern Illinois University. She earned Bachelors of Science in Psychology from University of Missouri and a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from McKendree University. Dr. Kasen’s areas of research interest and subject matter expertise relates to organizational behavior and leadership. She supports social justice programs via participation in Educators for Social Justice in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Kasen serves as an Oasis tutor in Parkway School District, Chesterfield, Missouri. She is a volunteer for the St. Louis Carousel at Faust Park, Chesterfield, Missouri.
