Simone McIntyre
Dr. P. Simone McIntyre is an accomplished educator and practitioner in the field of counselor education and mental health services. With formal teaching and a background in clinical mental health counseling, Dr. McIntyre has dedicated over a decade to both academia and professional practice. She has been involved in teaching at the graduate level, specializing in courses related to multicultural counseling, substance abuse treatment, and clinical mental health practicum and internships. Her teaching spans several institutions where she has contributed to both Master’s and Ph.D. programs in counseling.
At Walden University, Dr. McIntyre has played a critical role in supporting graduate students, providing instruction, mentorship, and supervision. Her focus at Walden includes preparing students for advanced roles in counseling, particularly through clinical training and educational leadership.
Dr. McIntyre’s primary research interests lie in the intersection of mental health, addiction studies, and the role of faith-based organizations in supporting African American communities. She is particularly passionate about addressing mental health stigmas in underserved populations and exploring the dynamics of mental health referrals from African American pastors. In her professional background, Dr. McIntyre is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPCS) and a Licensed Addiction Counselor Supervisor (LACS) in South Carolina, a Qualified Supervisor (QS), a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) in North Carolina with numerous certifications, including being a Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) trainer and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She has held key roles such as Program Manager at Partners Behavioral Health Management, where she led a team providing mental health and substance use services for high-risk populations. Additionally, she has served as a therapist in various community settings, including roles in criminal justice and substance abuse programs.
Among her major work accomplishments, Dr. McIntyre has delivered multiple presentations at national and regional conferences, with topics ranging from improving mental health outcomes in Black communities to integrating mental health services within faith-based institutions. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through her work with organizations such as the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina and the Addiction Professionals of North Carolina, where she has consistently advocated for the integration of mental health and spirituality in therapeutic settings.
