Dr. Nick Summa is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with over a decade of experience in the counseling profession.

As a faculty member at Walden University, Dr. Summa supports the development of counseling students through teaching, mentorship, and the integration of theory, research, and clinical practice. He is committed to helping future counselors cultivate professional identity, ethical practice, multicultural competence, and evidence-based clinical skills.

Dr. Summa's primary research and professional interests include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), LGBTQ+ affirmative counseling, counselor development, clinical supervision, and community-based mental health services. His work emphasizes the integration of systemic and attachment-based approaches to promote meaningful and lasting change for individuals, couples, and families.

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Summa serves as the Clinical Director of Congruent Relationships, a counseling practice serving individuals, couples, and families throughout Pennsylvania. He is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, providing clinical supervision, consultation, and training for emerging and established clinicians. Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with relational concerns, identity development, and the unique needs of LGBTQ+ clients and communities.

Dr. Summa's professional accomplishments include developing and leading clinical training programs, supervising graduate counselors and marriage and family therapists, and presenting at state and national professional conferences, including the Pennsylvania Counseling Association Conference, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Annual Conference, and the American Family Therapy Academy Conference. His presentations have focused on topics related to attachment, couples and family therapy, LGBTQ+ affirmative practice, supervision, and counselor development. He remains actively engaged in counselor education, clinical supervision, and the promotion of high-quality, evidence-informed mental health services.
