In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Nancy C. Lee is an accomplished educator and experienced federal professional with over 27 years of expertise in social work, healthcare administration, workforce development, and organizational leadership. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Bachelor of Social Work program at Walden University, where she facilitates online undergraduate courses, engages students in meaningful dialogue, and fosters ethical reflection and critical thinking.Dr. Lee holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University, a Master of Social Work with a macro concentration from Howard University, and a master’s in health care administration from the University of Phoenix.
Her teaching background includes serving as an online instructor at both Walden University and Argosy University, with a strong command of virtual learning platforms and instructional design. In her full-time role as the VISN 6 Designated Learning Officer and Supervisory Education Program Specialist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Dr. Lee leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of workforce education initiatives across multiple medical centers. She chairs national and regional task forces, designs leadership academies, and advises senior executives on strategic learning interventions. She has also served as a Contracting Officer Representative and has acquired expertise in project and policy development, quality improvement, and cross-functional team facilitation.
Previously, Dr. Lee held numerous leadership roles within the VA, including Program Analyst at VA Central Office in Washington, D.C., Social Worker for the Community Contract Program and Infectious Disease Services at the Durham VA Medical Center, and Geriatric Social Worker at the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center. She has contributed to national VA programs through data analysis, SharePoint management, program inspection, training development, and strategic planning. Her work has supported Veteran-centered care, performance improvement, and the expansion of telework practices in social work services. Prior to her VA career, she practiced as a Oncology medical social worker at High Point Regional Hospital, High Point, NC for several years before pursuing her MSW.
Dr. Lee’s primary research interests include program evaluation, strategic leadership, social work administration, and the advancement of healthcare equity through federal systems. Her dissertation focused on evaluating the contract program at the Durham VA Medical Center using Veteran Support Service Center (VSSC) data. She is passionate about mentoring emerging professionals and promoting inclusive, lifelong learning in health and human services.Dr. Lee exemplifies integrity, dedication, and innovation in all aspects of her career and continues to support the missions of both Walden University and the VA through education, service, and leadership.
