In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Mirella V. Brooks works as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse/Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in nephrology in Kapolei, Hawaii. Dr. Brooks’ research interests include chronic illness management, genetics, and genomics. Dr. Brooks has 25+ years of nursing experience as a registered nurse in the areas of Intensive Care Nursing, Cardiac Care, Emergency and Trauma Nursing, Hospice Care, Organ, and Tissue Donation and Nursing Research. Dr. Brooks received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Manhattan Community College in New York City, New York. She then attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received a BSN, MSN, and Ph.D. in Nursing. She has over 20 years of online teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels and at Walden University, serves as a contributing faculty member in the DNP program.
