In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Michelle Preiksaitis (Dr. P) is the founder/President of a woman-owned small business called Coastal Organizational Research and Learning Strategies LLC. She helps small business owners improve their strategies and assists universities with curriculum oversight and strategic processes. She is a contributing faculty member in the DBA program at Walden University (since 2022), and was a lead faculty member in the MHRM program at Walden University from 2012 to 2019. She is a full-time Associate Professor in a doctoral business program for a private university in Kentucky.
Dr. P has an active law license in Illinois, where she was a trial and appellate litigator for 15 years before entering the world of online education. Since 2003, she has taught online, and managed online programs as Associate Dean, Director, Faculty Chair, and full Professor at multiple universities. She teaches business and employment law, Human Resources, talent management and development, training, leadership, management, ethics, and technical writing courses.
She has assisted start-ups and small and medium-sized business owners with operations, strategy, talent management, and overall ethical operations for 31 years. She also has built bachelor, master, and doctoral business programs and courses for multiple universities. For 4 years, she was in a leadership role overseeing five doctoral programs, including managing and creating a new DBA program in a flexible, competency-based model.
She won an appellate trial in Illinois which changed the law regarding how child support was calculated at the time (In Re Alexander, 596 NE 2nd 1335 (Ill App 4th, 1992), and she won another case that helped define a term in the bankruptcy law (County Collector for Delinquent Taxes, 683 NE 2d 995 (Ill. App 4th., 1997).
Dr. P lives with her husband, Capt. Ray, in Florida with her mini-goldendoodle Sparky. She has four adult children and four grandchildren. She teaches online and runs her consulting business remotely.
