Melissa Virnig obtained her Masters degree at The College of St Scholastica in 2006 and has been practicing in psychiatry since then. She has worked in inpatient, outpatient, long term care and community services. She enjoys working with the serious and persist mentally ill population. At Walden University Melissa is an instructor for the Practicum Experience of the PMHNP Program. She has been with the University for 2 years and believes that it is her ethical commitment to share her experiences with future nursing graduates.

Melissa started working in the nursing home when she was 18 years old. She has experience in medical and oncology. Her experiences with end of life issues lead her to psychiatry. She currently practices in rural Minnesota proving services to adults, geriatrics and provides in home services through the Assertive Community Treatment program. She provides on site psychiatric services to group homes and nursing facilities.
