In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Martin’s PhD is in nursing science with an emphasis on decision theory and pain management (Indiana University 1983). She has served in various academic and practice roles over her 40+ year career. Dr. Martin has served as a program director, chair and dean of schools of nursing. As well, she served in the US Air Force Reserve and fulfilled the last 8 years of her career on Active Duty at the US Pentagon where she served as the senior health policy analyst for the Chief, Air Force Reserve. She then resumed her role in higher education positions related to research, curriculum design, and assessment and health policy and advocacy at both online and brick and mortar schools. At Walden University, she teaches the in the health policy and informatics courses and serves as a mentor to PhD and DNP students. Dr. Martin’s current research interest focuses primarily on lateral violence in nursing and instrument development. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences related on a number of topics. Dr. Martin has authored or co-authored a number of peer reviewed articles and grant proposals as well as serving as a peer reviewer for high impact nursing journals including Perspectives in Psychiatric Nursing, The Journal of Military Medicine, and Journal of Nursing Regulation (JNR) the official journal of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. In 2010, she was recognized as one of the top 100 nurses in South Carolina with the Palmetto Gold Award. Dr. Martin retired as a Colonel and receive the Legion of Merit medal upon completion of her career.
