In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Marilyn Galvez is a doctorally prepared Family Nurse Practitioner and healthcare educator with experience in clinical practice, radiologic sciences, and higher education since 2009. Her formal teaching areas include graduate nursing, health policy, and population health, with a focus on developing advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice skills among nursing students. At Walden University, Dr. Galvez serves as contributing faculty in the Master of Science in Nursing program, where she facilitates student learning, supports scholarly development, and promotes the application of policy and advocacy principles in real-world healthcare settings.
Dr. Galvez’s primary areas of research interest include preventive medicine, population health outcomes, healthcare policy, and the integration of imaging and digital health technologies into clinical practice. Her subject matter expertise includes advanced practice nursing, telehealth delivery models, imaging sciences, clinical education design, and healthcare informatics.
Professionally, Dr. Galvez brings a unique interdisciplinary background as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, and radiologic technologist with advanced certifications in imaging and informatics. She has held leadership roles in academic and clinical settings since 2016, including serving as a university department chair and program director in imaging sciences, where she led curriculum development, accreditation compliance, and faculty mentorship. She currently leads enterprise-level clinical education and provider development initiatives in preventive medicine, focusing on scaling training programs, improving clinical quality, and integrating technology-driven workflows across healthcare systems.
Her major accomplishments include leading successful program accreditations, developing standardized clinical education frameworks for multi-state providers, and contributing to the advancement of digital health and imaging-based preventive care models. Dr. Galvez is recognized for her ability to bridge clinical practice, education, and innovation to improve patient outcomes and provider performance.
