Dr. Lydia Albuquerque is an Adjunct Faculty member with over 40 years of experience in nursing. Her extensive career includes more than a decade as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and over two decades in academia, where she has taught both undergraduate and graduate nursing students.
Dr. Albuquerque earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing From College of Nursing AFMC, India, followed by a Master of Science in Nursing Education from SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, India. She completed her Post-Master’s Certificate as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at College of Nursing Rutgers University, NJ and obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from William Paterson University . She is currently pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Economics and Health Management at William Paterson University.
Her career has been dedicated to designing and conducting research aimed at improving health outcomes and reducing disparities among populations at high risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Her recent clinical practice focuses on heart failure, structural heart disease, and critical care.
Dr. Albuquerque has received the Clinical Excellence Award from the Heart failure Society of America , and was recently honored with the Health Equity Award by the at the 2026 Opportunity and Impact Summit in Washington, DC by American Nurses Foundation.
In academia, she currently serves as a coordinator of a Nurse Practitioner program and continues to practice as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, with over 12 years of clinical experience in acute care settings.
A distinguished leader in the nursing profession, Dr. Albuquerque served as the 8th President of the . She has also contributed nationally as a commissioner to American Nurses Association to address racism in Nursing . She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, National Academies of Practice and Academy of Diversity Leaders in Nursing.
Dr Albuquerque is a Fellow of American Academy of Nursing. Distinguished Fellow of the Academy of Diverse Nurse Leader and Fellow of the Nurse Academy of Practice.
