In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Lushunda Wood-Buckson is a graduate of Walden University with a DSW in Social Work with a concentration in Clinical Expertise. She holds a Master's in Social Work from the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work. She began her Adjunct career in 2018, specializing in clinical social work practice courses at the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work. Dr. Wood-Buckson is a South Carolina LISW-CP/S (licensed independent social worker-clinical practice/supervisor). Dr. Wood-Buckson has over 17 years of experience in social work practice. She began her career at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, where she completed court order evaluation for adjudicated juveniles. Throughout Dr. Wood-Buckson's social work career, she has worked in several areas, including mental health, addictions, domestic violence, case management, and sexual assault with adolescents and adults, in the capacity of program director and direct practice as a therapist. She has been employed in non-profit and state agencies, including the following: The Forrest Center for Behavioral Health, SC Department of Mental Health, Spartanburg Regional Hospital System of Behavioral Health, Spartanburg Regional Hospital System case management department, Project Rest (formerly known as Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition, and Marshall Pickens Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital. Additionally, in Dr. Wood-Buckson's social work career, she has been the owner and therapist of a mental health private practice. Dr. Wood-Buckson is the Social Work Manager at Spartanburg Regional Hospital Home Health.
