In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Lija Gireesh received her DNP at the Drexel University, Philadelphia in March 2018. She currently serves as Lead Nurse Practitioner, Employee Health Services at Christiana Care Health System, Delaware and has served in this role since May 2016. Dr Gireesh began her career as a Registered Nurse for the same health system and has moved up in the career ladder as a preceptor for nurses and graduate nurse practitioners and currently in a leadership position. During her career as registered nurse, she was very active in the unit based Professional Nurse Council and was the co-chair. Working closely with IT department, she was one of the super users and was instrumental in the implementation of Electronic Medical Records in the medical units at Christiana Care. Dr Gireesh is ANCC certified as Family Nurse Practitioner and is a certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S). In her current role, along with managing her clinical role as Nurse Practitioner, she works in close partnership with Human Resources Department to plan and implement various policies and procedures for hospital workers. She is a mentor for the new Nurse Practitioners joining the clinic and precepts graduate students from various universities. Dr Gireesh coordinates educational activities for all levels of staff in the clinic. Along with working as a clinician at Employee Health Services, one main project that she is lead was the selection, evaluation and successful implementation of electronic health records for hospital employees. Professional voluntary activities include functioning as nurse reviewer of Delaware Nurse Associations’ continuing nursing education committee, mentor for novice nurses in Research council, and Certified Medical Interpreter for the health system. Dr Gireesh is an active member of the National Indian Nurse Practitioner Association of America and also serves in their committee. Areas of research interest and presentation include substance use disorders and injury reduction initiatives among health care workers.
