Leah Jaquez
Faculty Biography
Dr. Jaquez is an accomplished nurse educator and healthcare leader with expertise in nursing education, maternal-newborn care, and curriculum innovation. With over a decade of combined clinical and academic experience, she is dedicated to advancing student success through competency-based education, active learning methodologies, and evidence-based teaching strategies.
As a faculty member at Walden University, Dr. Jauqez is dedicated to fostering inclusive, student-centered learning environments that integrate active learning, gamification, and simulation-based instruction. She specializes in maternal-newborn nursing, nursing education, and NCLEX preparation, providing students with the tools to develop clinical judgment, cultural competency, and critical thinking skills essential for modern nursing practice.
Dr. Jaquez is passionate about the science of nursing education and is an advocate for neurodiversity-focused teaching methodologies. Her scholarly work explores innovative nursing education strategies, including the Continuity-Based Care Model, a hybrid framework she developed for competency-based obstetric nursing education. She hopes to present these insights and contribute to the advancement of inclusive and equitable teaching practices.
In addition to her role at Walden University, Dr. Jaquez has held faculty positions at multiple institutions, where she has led curriculum development, student mentorship programs, and faculty development initiatives. She is also an experienced NCLEX educator, having developed data-driven remediation strategies to enhance student success rates.
Dr. Jaquez is an active member of the Nurse Honor Guard, a role she holds with deep pride and reverence, paying tribute to the legacy and service of nurses. She also serves as Chair of Philanthropy for the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Gamma Omega at Large Chapter, supporting nursing leadership and professional development.
In addition to her work at Walden University, Dr. Jaquez has held faculty positions at multiple institutions, leading curriculum development, faculty mentorship programs, and student success initiatives. Dr. Jaquez earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Leadership and Education from Chamberlain University, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Walden University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New Mexico. She holds multiple professional certifications, including Certified Inpatient Obstetric Nurse (RNC-OB), Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Quality Matters Online Teaching Certification.
Her professional memberships include the National League for Nursing, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, and the Nurse Honor Guard, where she continues to honor and uphold the traditions of nursing with great respect and dedication.
