In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Laura Clevenger is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT - FL Lic#: MT2792 Exp: 3/31/27), owner, president, and clinical director of Family Resources, LLC, a private practice in Tallahassee, FL. Dr. Clevenger has graduated with her Master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Capella University in 2009 and her Doctorate degree from Capella University in counselor education and supervision in 2015. Dr. Clevenger also holds a bachelors degree in Music Therapy from Florida State University. She has worked with many populations such as those dealing with anxiety, having relationship issues, and LGBTQ+ folks. Her current clinical work focuses on relationships and transgender health but is skilled in many areas of mental health. Additionally, Dr. Clevenger in an approved supervisor in the state of Florida and regularly provides supervision to several registered interns seeking MHC and MFT licensure.
She is a clinical member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE), and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES). Dr. Clevenger has completed Gottman Level 3 training.
Dr. Clevenger is an contributing faculty member with Walden University and teaches a variety of courses. Dr. Clevenger has been teaching since 2016 and has extensive experience with online school, courses, and instruction.
Research interests include sex, sexuality, gender, nutrition, psychedelics, relationships, and any combination of those.
