In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. LaKeysha Jenkins, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC earned her BSN from Hampton University, where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and completed her MSN with an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP focus at Virginia Commonwealth University. Driven by a growing passion in mental health, she obtained her Post-Graduate Psychiatric Mental Health NP certification from Washburn University. She later completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Frontier Nursing University. Dr. Jenkins is board certified through ANCC as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She has cared for diverse populations across critical care, primary care, internal medicine, obesity medicine, and psychiatric settings, including adolescent residential care, outpatient mental health, emergency department psychiatric evaluation, and inpatient psychiatric consultation. Dr. Jenkins served as an adjunct faculty member for several years, she currently owns and operates a private obesity medicine and mental health practice in Newport News, VA, and practices at the Hampton VA Medical Center. She is a member of Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Obesity Medicine Association, and Chi Eta Phi Incorporated professional nursing sorority. Dr. Jenkins is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and education.
