A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Dr. Kristin Richards serves as Contributing Faculty in the at Walden University where she has taught since 2014. Additionally, Dr. Richards serves as Chair of the Bachelor of Social Work Program as well as Associate Professor. She has been teaching in higher education since 2011. Prior to returning to Jackson State University, Dr. Richards served as Associate Vice President of Future Energy Solutions. Prior academic appointments include Associate Professor, Master of Social Work Program, Jackson State University, Assistant Professor, Master of Social Work Program, Mississippi Valley State University, Adjunct Professor, College of Business and Aviation, Delta State University, and Instructor, College of Social Work, Florida State University.

Kristin Richards received her BSW from Belmont University in Nashville, TN, her MSW from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. Dr. Richards also received a Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida State University and is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in Mississippi.

Committed to helping individuals and families strengthen their financial lives, Dr. Richards served as a research fellow with the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). She was also the recipient of a grant from Equifax Inc. Dr. Richards continues to present her research at financial literacy forums and has twice been named a Hot Topic presenter by the Council on Social Work Education.
