In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Karissa Feichtl has been a registered nurse since 2007. She obtained her BSN and MSN degree at Walden University and her DNP at Chamberlain University.
From 2007 to 2021, as an RN, she worked in the hospital setting in units including medical/surgical, oncology, renal transplant, bariatrics, stroke, telemetry, burn, pulmonology, hospice/palliative care, orthopedics, and women’s health.
From 2020 to current time, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she works per diem at a busy family outpatient clinic where she cares for patients of all ages. Here she assesses, diagnoses, orders pertinent tests and laboratory work and interprets laboratory results and radiographic imaging. She prescribes a vast number of medications depending on diagnoses.
As a DNP, she is a full time Associate Professor at a nursing college in New Jersey where she is head of the Pediatric nursing division. She serves on multiple committees and has been honored with multiple Daisy nominations as well being the faculty speaker for the Nursing Pinning ceremony in 2024 and 2025, as per student votes.
She holds a contributing faculty position for the Nurse Practitioner program here at Walden University.
