Dr. Ricks received his PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from North Carolina State University. He has served as a school counselor at the elementary and high school levels and as a college counselor. Dr. Ricks has taught counseling students since 2016 and his research interests include social-emotional learning and development, school counselor preparation, and play therapy. He has presented at state and national conferences on these topics. He is a member of the American Counseling Association, the American School Counselor Association, the Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society, the Association for Play Therapy, and Association for Child and Adolescent Counseling where he is currently serving as a board member for the NC chapter. Dr. Ricks is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds licensure as a professional school counselor and Licensed Clinical Mental Counselor (LCMHC).
