In the EdD Early Childhood Education specialization, you’ll build skills and progress toward your final capstone project in every course.

In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation/doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation/doctoral study course shell.
To complete a doctoral dissertation, students must obtain the academic approval of several independent evaluators including their committee, the University Research Reviewer, and the Institutional Review Board; pass the Form and Style Review; gain approval at the oral defense stage; and gain final approval by the Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Schexnydre received her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans, La in May 2023. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor (LPC-S) in Louisiana. She is also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) with the NBCC and a Board Certified TeleMental Health provider. In addition, Dr. Schexnydre has 17 years of experience working in various settings of the counseling profession. For the past 12 years, Dr. Schexnydre has owned and operated her private practice with a focus on serving individuals whose ages range between 6 and 60. She has also provided services to families. Dr. Schexnydre has teaching experience at other universities which include Capella University and Northwestern University. At Capella, Dr. Schexnydre is an Assistant Instructor and teaches Ethical and Legal Issues in Professional Counseling. She has also taught Practicum courses at Northwestern University as a Reflective Practitioner Supervisor. At Walden, Dr. Schexnydre currently serves as a Contributing Faculty Member. She has taught Social Change in Action (6785), Multicultural Counseling (6723), and Introduction to Clinical Mental Health Counseling (6100). For the 2026 Spring Term, Dr. Schexnydre will teach 2 sections of Introduction to Clinical Mental Health Counseling (6100).
