Jinnelle Powell
Dr. Powell earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and has over a decade of experience as a professional counselor. Her career as a counselor began in 2011 and in 2013 she achieved full licensure. In 2019, Dr. Powell became a board approved supervisor and in 2022 she began working as a counselor education and supervision adjunct faculty. Dr. Powell is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Approved Supervisor in Texas. She is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Treatment Trainer, Consultant, and Certified Therapist through the EMDR International Association.
Dr. Powell has experience engaging in supervision and teaching for counselors in training as a faculty supervisor and site supervisor. She has professional counseling experience in a variety of capacities including private practice, child welfare agencies, and mental health community centers. Her teaching experience includes an appointment as Assistant Professor of Practice in Counselor Education at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. She has experience working as an Adjunct Faculty at Delta State University and St. Edward's University and as a Teaching Assistant at Walden University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Her leadership skills extend beyond the classroom and into the professional field of mental health. Dr. Powell is the owner/founder of Distinctive Counseling and Consulting, PLLC, where she oversees a dynamic team of fully licensed counselors, provisionally licensed counselors, and student counselors in training. At Distinctive, she founded the Nikki Claudette EMDR Scholarship Fund, which awards associate-level counselors the opportunity to become EMDR Trained and Certified through Distinctive Counseling and Consulting, PLLC. Dr. Powell's service includes volunteering with the American Red Cross as a Disaster Mental Health Responder on the Disaster Response Team from 2021 to 2022, serving as the President of the Omega Zeta Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota from 2022 to 2023, and serving as the Chapter Faculty Advisor of the Delta Sigma Upsilon Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota for the 2024 to 2025 Academic Year.
